Earlier last month, cybercriminals earned a $75,000 Bitcoin third-party payout when they attacked NEO Urology in Boardman, Ohio. The practice was held siege by ransomware that locked down their entire computer system on June 10th. It took until June 12th to regain access.
Two days might not sound like much, but the lost revenue alone for NEO was between $30,000 – $50,000 per day according to WFMJ, an Ohio news source. The IT firm enlisted by NEO suspects that the hack originated in Russia.
Businesses, both large and small, have seen an almost 200% increase in ransomware attacks in the first quarter of 2019 alone. Now more than ever security awareness training is mandatory for your business’ survival. Access to patient data is critical for health care providers, and medical practices cannot afford to be locked out for days on end.
